SE Long Champs and SEL
A National event on the prime orienteering area of Blackheath and Farley Heath SE of Guildford with an updated map by Tom Edelsten, planned by Phil Conway and controlled by Gordon Parker (SLOW). The area offers a mix of mainly runnable forest and open heathland with fast runnable areas, rough open, patches of dead bracken and heather with an extensive (and confusing) path network well used by walkers and riders.
When you enter, please select the Age Class that you wish to run in. You must comply with the Eligibility Criteria for the SE Championships (under Event Information below) if you wish to compete for the medals and podium places.
We regret there will not be a String course.
Select your start time from 10:30 – 12:30 and ensure you have allowed yourself enough time before courses close at 15:00.
Parking will be tight and limited, so please share/offer transport! See Event Information below for public transport options.
If you would be interested in helping at the event (there is a discount on entry in return) please get in touch with the Organiser who is a little short of manpower.

The longest 3 courses have 29 or more controls which means you should check carefully that your dibber has sufficient capacity. Older dibbers with numbers in the range 1 - 499,999 and 2,000,001 - 2,999,999 cannot hold full data for more than 30 controls. If hiring a dibber for these courses you should hire a SIAC.
You can get away with an older low-capacity dibber for Brown and Short Brown (not Black) but not if you mispunch by mistake, as each mispunch will occupy one of the control memories of the dibber.

Novice senior entry fee of £8 applies to White/Yellow/Orange courses.
From 22 January the fees increase by £2 (Senior) and £1 (Junior/Novice)
and are subject to the availability of printed maps.
Normal SI dibber hire is £1; contactless SIAC dibber hire is £2.50. Please note that lost SI dibbers are charged at £33, and lost hired SIACs charged at £72.
Entry fee for non-BOF-affiliated Seniors attracts a £2 supplement, Juniors £1. Make sure you have renewed your BO membership to avoid the premium.
Senior full-time students pay the Junior entry fee.
COVID-19
There are no longer any formal restrictions around Covid-19. However we encourage you not to attend if you or a member of your household has Covid-19 symptoms.

Public transport
By bus: number 32 bus (Guildford – Dorking - Redhill); get off at Park Gates then 1.6 mile walk along road.
By train: (GWR rail replacement bus service); get off at Gomshall station then 3.1 miles (1hr 10m) walk along paths. (Please do not come from Chilworth station as the route passes through the competition area.)

SE Championships Eligibility
You can enter any course, but to be eligible for Championship medals you must enter the age class matching your age and sex, or 'run up'. Eligibility also requires that you are a member of British Orienteering and a member of the South East Orienteering Association (SEOA). Medals are awarded to the fastest 3 eligible runners in each Entry Age Class.
Running up
M class competitors can only run up to M class courses.
W class competitors may run up to W or M class courses.
Competitors in age classes from 10 to 18 may run up to an older age class.
Competitors in age classes from 35 to 90 may run up to a younger age class.
When you run up you are not competing in your 'own' age class.
Medical conditions
Competitors take part at their own risk. If you have an existing Medical Condition of which the Organisers should be aware, please complete a Medical Form which can be downloaded from the British Orienteering website and hand in at Download/Enquiries in a sealed envelope marked with your name and "Confidential Medical Form for GO 02/02/25 event only". This will be opened only if you require medical treatment and are not conscious. It will be destroyed at the end of the event.
